Have you ever wondered why people living in a certain house or location may be dogged by problems like illness, bankruptcy, divorce, or death? OGOVA ONDEGO interviews a man who explains this mystery.

You may be wondering why you are always moody or your relationship with other people is bad after working or staying in a building for some time. An Indian architect and building biologist, Mayank Barjatya, contends that the problem lies with the situation of the building in which you stay longest (home or office).

Mayank, who trained in building biology in France, says the site and the way a house or office is built affects one’s health, fortunes and other aspects of one’s life whether one knows it or not. He says “the art of placements of rooms, furniture and the surroundings with harmony to nature earth plays a very important role in every individual’s life.” He explains that people spend most of their time in buildings surrounded by four walls and that there is “a definite relationship between human energies and those of the environment” as “the house becomes an extension of the individual.”

Mayank, who was recently in Nairobi to help “treat houses” for his clients, stresses that buildings must be constructed with respect to natural laws if humans are to thrive. “If the built environment is not in harmony with natural energies, the negativity created troubles and disturbs the individual living inside the environment.” Mayank’s profession (known as Vastu in India), he explains, is the holistic science of creating balance of subtle energies which diagnoses and cures various human ailments.

The secret to successful living and working in a building lies in knowing how the cosmic energy flows in relation to the site of the building. This way, one can easily predict and prevent misfortunes like divorce, ill health, unhappiness and poverty before they manifest their ugly heads. Mayank says the principles of his Building Science are based on logic. The most important factors to judge through are the four cardinal directions of a compass: North South, East, and West.

“Divine energy enters from the North-East of a premises. As it rises and splits, half of it flows towards the South-East and the other half travels North-West before rising and flowing towards the South-West.” So how does the site of a building affect one’s health, happiness and fortune? When the bio-magnetic field of a plot is disturbed, it can turn violent and dangerous to humans. “If a building or conglomeration of buildings is causing too much disruption to an energy field, natural disasters may occur. It is very important to choose a site that is in harmony with the cosmic and bio-energies,” Mayank says.

He explains that in building biology the concern is on how the structure or compound affects the natural energy fields, not so much on how the flow affects the inhabitants. He cautions that “if one is unwilling or unable to build in harmony with the natural order or to make the necessary plot level corrections, the plot shakes the inhabitants off, be it by illness, bankruptcy, divorce, or even death. The worse the less suited the site for the habitat, the more rapid the ill effects.” This, according to Mayank, sheds light on why a certain house or site may appear to be jinxed or is repeatedly up for sale.

He concludes that in many cases making a few corrections to the plot level usually alleviates problems for future generations. Mayank insists his practice is pure science and not a dabbling in spirituality. Is it?
