Five more Africans have been selected for the 2015 edition of Artists In Residency (AIR) programme.
The latest selection by Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Centre that concludes the 2015 edition of AIR, has added five applicants to the nine already selected and announced.
Cape Town (South Africa)-based Africa Centre (AC), that runs the Artists In Residency programme, says the five artists were selected from a shortlist of 24.
“These additional five artists,” AC says, “bring the total to 14 who were accepted into nine different residencies around the world as part of the 2015 Programme.”
The artists selected are:
- Lauren Ann Beukes (Author, South Africa)
- Tsitsi Dangarembga (Novelist/Playwright/Filmmaker, Zimbabwe)
- Victor Ehighale Ehikhamenor (Author/Visual Artist, Nigeria)
- Yared Zeleke (Filmmaker, Ethiopia), and
- Fathy Adly Salama (Performing Artist, Egypt).
“We will be launching the 2016 call for applications for the AIR programme in the second half of this year,” AC says.
AIR is touted as “a platform for exploring contemporary Pan-African cultural practice as a catalyst for social change.” AC says practitioners selected to the programme are high caliber African artists who are provocative, innovative, socially-engaged and stretching the boundaries of their artistic practice.
