A television show referred to as ‘the first of its kind’ is about to go live in Kenya.
Known as The Squad and featuring an all-female cast, the show is being marketed as being “inspirational, fun, provocative and educational” and that it will “give you nostalgic moments about hanging out with your favourite girls.”
The Squad is said to boast “a stellar cast of entertainers who are not afraid of tackling any issue, however controversial.”
Produced by Future Pics Studios, The Squad features actress Nice Githinji, musician Chantelle Blessing, health, fitness and wellness motivator Lucy Muturi and marketer Ella Ciiru.
“I’m not sure how original I can sound at this point, but darn, these ladies slay,” says director Janet Kirina who, together with Githinji, owns Future Pics Studios.
Githinji says the panel tackles day to day issues; such as gain and loss of weight, careers, parenting, cyber-bullying and online personas.
“They speak what you think but are afraid to say; they aren’t afraid to pull out their wigs and show what lies underneath,” Githinji says.
“Being part of The Squad, a platform by women for women, is a dream come true, ” Lucy Muturi says. “I get to spend time with three other amazing ladies with totally different personalities which I think is what makes the show even more interesting.”
Blessing is described as being passionate about ending gender-based violence and women and curbing female circumcision.
“Don’t be fooled by her smile, though,“ Future Pics Studios says of Blessing. “She hides her claws behind her gel manicured nails.
Lucy Muturi says she is a health, fitness & wellness motivator, model, nutritionist and blogger.
“I am a self-professed feminist who is impatient, temperamental, confident, kind and humble,” she says. “My greatest desire is to help people; make an impact in someone’s life, change the world in any way I can.”
Ella Ciiru, a former marketing manager, says she got tongues wagging by refusing to play dirty when she got into acting.
“I live to surprise myself as much as my audience,” she says.

The talk show is scheduled to run every Thursday at 8:00PM on newly launched Ace TV.
