The SAFTA Awards are part of the initiative to establish the South African Film and Television Academy (SAFTA) that will function as the governing structure and serve as the custodian of the South African Film and Television Academy Awards, the SAFTA AWARDS or the SAFTAS. Nominees for the awards will be revealed to the public and media at an exclusive function on September 30, 2006 while winners will be presented with the Golden Horn, the official SAFTA Trophy at the red carpet gala ceremonies that will host the crème of South African talent, leading personalities in the local film, television and music industry, key government, private sector and media VIP'S on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 October 2006. The main awards ceremony will be televised live on SABC 2 on October 28, 2006. Although most of the awards will be judged by panels made up of industry peers, local audiences will vote for their favourite Soapie.

This is Princess of Africa’s second trip to Kenya after her 2005 appearance at the Eve Woman of the Year awards. Chaka Chaka, best known in Kenya for her hits like I'm in Love with a DJ, Umqombothi, and Thank you Mr DJ, will also seek to promote her 16th album, Zibuyile Izinkomo (Zulu for "the cattle are back from grazing"), which is yet to be heard in Kenya. Tickets for the show are Sh1000 per head with the proceeds going towards providing free mammography to women who cannot afford it during a series of free breast screening clinics scheduled throughout Kenya over the next one year.
