Gino Langevin, Mauritius’s most appreciated singer and comedian, is set to join Creole artists from Seychelles, the Rodrigues Island of Mauritius, La Reunion, Martinique and Haiti at the 28th edition of Festival Kreol in Seychelles in the week starting October 25, 2013.
Langevin (alias Laval Disco), a new generation of singer and comedian unknown to the Seychellois public, has taken Mauritius by storm with his most successful track of Zoli, ou ene zoli fanm, and dalon. Word-of-mouth of Gino Langevin’s tracks, interpreted with his personal comic touch, has ranked him as one of the most promising artists of the region.

“Laval Disco, who began his career as a comedian, collaborated with Mauritian singers on a number of songs already written of which he successfully interpreted. But it’s the song Ou ene zoli fanm which enabled him to make his benchmark in the musical industry.
Although he proudly admitted that he ‘has never written any song’ despite his on-going success, Gino Langevin’s craving to write his own composition is more than ever pressing. By incorporating comical lyrics in the songs he interpreted, the singer still sees himself as a comedian but in a different form: one that uses humour to make music.
It is humour that ‘drives me to music,’ said Gino Langevin in one of the interviews he gave to a Mauritian paper.
Gino Langevin is the perfect example to illustrate that the two art forms of comedy and music can co-exist. Currently his song track “dalon†is making a big buzz in the region. Interpreted by Gino Langevin with his own musical arrangement, the sega song with a comical air contains a colorful lyric touching the Creole-speaking nations of Seychelles, Rodrigues, and Mauritius. The song, a ballad originated in Rodrigues, is much appreciated by the public at large.

With his first solo album in the making, Gino Langevin’s future as a comedian and musician is set to fulfil one of his missions: that is writing his own compositions and to continue to entertain the public with his rhythmic and comical tunes. His presence in Seychelles will help make his Mauritian music gain international recognition as he performs in the presence of a large number of international press flying to Seychelles to cover the 2013 Festival Kreol.
