Students in media schools around Africa are invited to submit their films to a new all-Africa student film competition.
Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF), based in Egypt, says 12 films will be selected to compete for its best artistic achievement that comes with financial support for the winners to complete their next projects.
LAFF says it will also organise workshops and master classes for film students attending the festival “to fortify their scriptwriting and directing abilities.”
Eligible for submission are works directed by African film students within the school curriculum, made during 18 months preceding March 2016, do not exceed 30 minutes running-time and are narrative.
While documentaries are not accepted, all submitted films should have English subtitles and can be sent via protected web link to the festival’s email or on DVD via postal services before January 15, 2016.
So how does one apply?
Application details are online at luxorafricanfilmfestival.com/en/Festival/FilmStudentCompetition/.
This new competition, LAFF says, was launched in the framework of its support of up-and-coming African filmmakers across Africa and in the context of celebrating its 5th consecutive annual edition.
Meanwhile, LAFF 2016 is still accepting submissions for the International Freedom Competition till December 22, 2015.
The only international competition organised by LAFF, it grants Al-Husseiny Abou-Deif Prize (US$2000 and The Golden Mask of Tutankhamen) for the best film about freedom of expression, human rights and social justice.
“This prize celebrates the activity in the arts and honours the courageous filmmakers and their subjects,” LAFF says.
To be accepted, LAFF says submitted films should be those made in 2015, directed by an international filmmaker, and focusing on freedom of expression in defending and protecting human rights and demanding justice for everyone. The competition accepts both long documentaries and long narratives.
