Know Kenya Course

Films like Out of Africa, I dreamed of Africa, and Nowhere in Africa have romanticized Kenya with Roger Whitaker’s My land is Kenya singing the praises of this ancient yet modern country-‘the cradle of humanity’-that is undergoing cultural renaissance. But ignorance about Kenya’s place in history abounds not just among foreigners but also among Kenyans themselves. The Kenya Museum Society has organised Know Kenya, a nine-day course in Nairobi to rid society of any ignorance or misperception about this ‘land of contrasts’.

Also coming up on September 22, 2004 is an evening programme to be addressed by Professor Nina Jablonski of the California Academy of Sciences who will present a lecture and slides on the “Evolution of Skin Colour,” giving a scientific perspective on why Scandinavians are lighter-skinned with blond hair while Africans are darker-skinned with dark hair.
