The platform was created in 2009 by Lola Kenya Screen movie festival, skills-development and marketing platform for children and youth n eastern Africa in collaboration with UNESCO.
The network promotes media as a tool for cultural expression, inter-cultural dialogue and socio-economic development.
Also known as IndiePros-EA, IPO-Eastern Africa pays special attention to developmental issues such as gender-mainstreaming, agriculture, conservation and climate change.
The network draws its membership from among independent media content producers, creative & cultural entrepreneurs, social transformers, media literacy educators, and festival organisers in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, eastern Congo-Kinshasa, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia and Egypt.
