A university offering studies in tourism and travel has been launched in Livingstone, Zambia.The institution, Livingstone International University of Tourism Excellence and Business Management (LIUTEBM), is the first university in Zambia to provide undergraduate and post-graduate studies in tourism education.

According to liutebm.org, the website of the university, the core business of the institution is “the provision of high-quality education, consultancy, research, and activities that are relevant to, and best serve the needs of, individuals and organisations operating in the tourism industry and allied services in the quest for continuous performance, as well as improved and sustainable growth and development.”

LIUTEBM says it will “offer cost-effective, innovative, relevant programmes, and practical solutions to organisational problems in order to maximise …performance and development goals and objectives” of organisations and individuals. “It will endeavor to promote and inculcate a culture of business and service excellence in the tourism and allied industries throughout its service area.”

The university, that is currently working on collaborative efforts with institutions of higher learning in other countries on curriculum development, is headed by Dr Patrick K Kalifungwa.
