Jahmil-QubekaOF GOOD REPORT, a South African film that had in July 2013 been banned for allegedly showing ‘child pornography’ before the ban was lifted and instead the film rated 16 on appeal, is being released to cinemas across South Africa–Cape Town, Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Soweto–over the August 10/11, 2013 weekend.

Starring Mothusi Magano and Petronella Tshuma and directed by Jahmil Qubeka,this Michael Auret and Luzuko Dilima-produced psychological thriller is the story of a teacher following his heart to hell as he pursues a pupil for sex.

Qubeka, who describes OF GOOD REPORT as ‘your classical tale of lust, shameful lust,” he says the film is “making an indictment… For teenagers this is a horror film. I want kids, particularly girls, to watch this and I want to scare them.’

OF GOOD REPORT, the story about how a social misfit turns into an inadequate man hell-bent on satisfying his shameful lust, is being released in the following cinemas:

  • East London – Vincent Park
  • Pretoria – Sterland

Meanwhile, the 3rd Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) has extends its film submission deadline to August 20 from July 30, 2013.

“This decision was taken after extensive deliberations by the AFRIFF team to allow entries that are still in transit arrive at the festival as a number of filmmakers have sent notification and tracking details their entries,” Chioma Ude, CEO said in a statement issued in Lagos, Nigeria, on August 6, 2013.

afriff-tee-shirtsUde said Keith Shiri, the AFRIFF programmer and jury coordinator, would soon arrive in Nigeria to “inspect the film screening facilities and ensure everything is in place to support the high quality programme planned for the 2013 AFRIFF.”

The films selected for the 3rd AFRIFF would be announced in September 2013, Ude announced. The third annual AFRIFF is scheduled for November 10-17, 2013 in Calabar, Cross Rivers State of Nigeria.
