nairobi national museumNairobi National Museum (NNM) in collaboration with Kenya Visual Artists Network (KVNA) shall hold a consultative meeting with cultural journalists on reporting on art on August 27, 2013.

“The need for the workshop was prompted by KVNA members who felt that improved communication between arts journalists and artists could significantly improve the quality of the articles, art exhibitions and artist’s performance,” says Lydia Gatundu-Galavu, the Curator for Contemporary Art at NNM.”The forum shall specifically address art exhibitions at Nairobi National Museum and the artists will address curators and journalists.”

Gatundu-Galavu says the meeting shall discuss writing, curating and creating of art.

“The symposium aims to take us to the inside of the artist’s mind and to provide different approaches to understanding art, artists and curating,” she says.

Only a few participants have been invited to this first meeting; it is hoped that NNM will organise a bigger symposium before the end of 2013 to accommodate more stakeholders in Kenya’s fledgling arts and culture sector.
