European Union’s Euromed Audiovisual III (2011-2014) Discussed
Audiovisual media practitioners are set to gather in the Tunisian city of Tunis for a two-day meeting to evaluate a four-year programme of the European Union that comes to an end in 2014.

The gathering, that shall take place on December 2-3 on the sidelines of the Carthage Film Festival (JCC) and is also expected to focus on the role of women in South Mediterranean cinema, shall discuss the results and future priorities of the programme known as Euromed Audiovisual III.
The programme’s activities are drawing to a close after four years of support to the development of the South Mediterranean region’s film and audiovisual media sectors.
Among the issues to be discussed through three workshops, according to a media release from Euromed Audiovisual III, shall be film financing and film co-production, film distribution and film education, and collection of data on the region’s film and audiovisual media markets.
While representatives of audiovisual media funds are to discuss the recommendations of the Euromed Audiovisual III programme’s Financing Working Group to create a regional fund to support film development in the first workshop, the second workshop shall tackle film distribution and film education in the South Mediterranean region. The third workshop, on the other hand, is expected to focus on collection of data on film and audiovisual media markets in the region, with analysts and representatives of data-collecting organisations and professionals reflecting on the steps needed to develop regional cooperation in data collection on film and audio-visual media markets.

The gathering, on the second day, December 3, is expected to present the conclusions of the three workshops to national authorities, professional associations and both public and private funds to inform further action on film and audiovisual media sectors across the region in focus.
