South Africa shall from June 1, 2015 implement new Immigration rules that require parents or legal guardians arriving, transiting and departing from the country produce an unabridged birth certificate for their children or passengers below 18 years of age.

Airlines will be forced to decline travel to families not in possession of these documents. In the case where only one parent or legal guardian is travelling with the children, consent in the form of an affidavit from the other parent or legal guardian registered is required. Alternatively, either a court order granting full parental responsibilities and rights or a death certificate of the other parent must be produced.
Unaccompanied minors will be expected to provide proof of consent from one or both of their parents or legal guardians among other requirements.
Where one or two adults are travelling with a large group of children, these adults must have these documents for each child travelling. It may be a good idea for the adults to have a letter from the trip organisers, giving authority to the adults attending to these children.
