A business expo and conference on sustainable cities and communities shall be held in the Kenyan capital at the end of November 2016.

Held at Sarit Centre in the Westlands district of Nairobi and addressing Goal 11 of the 17 United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by 193 heads of state to wipe out poverty, fight inequality and tackle climate change between 2016 and 2030, the three-day event is expected to bring together players in the private and public sectors to showcase their products, services and capacity to serve the market on the theme, ‘Promoting Business Relations with Kenya’s Residents Associations’.
The Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations (KARA)-organised expo and conference that is endorsed by the Government of the Nairobi City County shall kick off on November 25 with experts speaking about various topics that lead to Sustainable Communities.

While Dickson Khainga of Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) is lined up to speak on The Place of Research Institutions and Anna Othoro of Nairobi City County’s Trade & Industrialisation on The Place of County Governments, Steve Okeyo of Safaricom Ltd shall look at The Place of Private Sector. Speaking on The Place of Kenya Residents shall be Juma Assiago of United Nations Human Settlements (UN-Habitat).
“The participating sponsors, partners and exhibitors will have an opportunity to interact with Residents Associations, various invited groups and the wider public with a view to create new networks, seal deals and broaden their clientele base,” says Nancy Kariuki, Programmes Manager at KARA. “The event is designed to uniquely blend businesses with Residents Associations for mutual benefit.”

KARA, that styles itself as “the apex body representing the voice and proactive action of resident associations on consumers and taxpayers right countrywide”, says it is “keen on enhancing access to public service delivery through effective information, education and communication as well as forging partnerships with the private sector, development partners, government ministries, departments & agencies and other stakeholders.”
It appears to be on this basis that the 1st KARA Business Expo and Conference is held in Nairobi “to see to it that Kenya’s new 47 Counties work effectively, efficiently and sustainably while involving local residents in policy formulation and implementation processes.”
