An athlete participating in the 2nd Team Tri Fit (TTF) National Triathlon and Duathlon Challenge in KerichoCross-Country has been added to an endurance sports event scheduled for September 3, 2017 in the Kericho tea-growing area of western Kenya.

Team Tri Fit, the organisers of the Kericho Triathlon and Duathlon Challenge say it has introduced cross-country as part of its “mission in getting more people into recreational and competitive sports while allowing them the opportunity to participate in one of the triathlon disciplines at our events. This will give the runners the opportunity to interact and be inspired by the other athletes competing in the triathlon and duathlon.”

To cover the 19.5 KM Cross-Country Trail Run that has been designed as a 6.5KM loop around the lush green landscape of Chesumot Estate, runners have to go around it three times.

While the Triathlon part of the event that is now known as 2nd Kericho Triathlon, Duathlon and X-Country Challenge covers a 750m swim in an open fresh water dam; a 6.5KM cycling loop; and a 1KM run, Duathlon covers running and cycling without swimming.

The organisers describe the running part as being the easiest segment of the race, saying “all participants should expect an exhilarating ride around the estate” as the terrain has “steady climbs, a few flats and lovely drops.”

Other options in Kericho town include Taidys Hotel, Sunshine Hotel and others that range from Sh1500 to Sh4350 for bed and breakfast.

The event is set to start at 8:00 AM with a final briefing to all participants followed by the flagging off of the triathlon and duathlon, children’s event and finally the x-country trail run, it is recommended.

All participants and not just ‘podium finishers’, the organisers say, “will get bespoke medals, customized finishers t-shirts and a lot more from their partners: Safaricom Limited, Finis Kenya, 5 Stars and Turtle Bay Resort Watamu.

Already registered for the event in the ongoing registration exercise are competitors based in Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Kericho and Kisumu, Team Tri Fit says.
