Film selectors who met since January 6, 2011 in Nigeria and the Gambia  pre-selected entries from the 220 films submitted to AMAA from 24 countries. These were the films that were sent to the College of Screeners in Ghana whose work winds up on January 23, 2011 ahead of the Nairobi Nomination Night on February 25, 2011.

Tony Anih, the AMAA Director of Administration, says 220 films were received for the 2011 edition of AMAA.

“Of this number, 120 are full-length fictional films, 10 are animations, 30 documentaries and 60 short films,” Anih, who is currently in Nairobi, says.
He describes the entries as an improvement over 2010 as most of the filmmakers who submitted their work to AMAA 2011 observed the entry rules.

The AMAA Nomination show and music concert in Nairobi will precede the Gala Night at which the finalists will receive their awards in Nigeria a month later in March 2011.
