Kenya Airways (KQ) shall on June 3, 2013 re-commence flights between Nairobi and Blantyre, the commercial and industrial centre of Malawi. This comes almost three months after Ethiopian Airlines (ET) started flying to Blantyre and Ndola in Zambia on March 31; Ethiopian is the main rival of Kenya Airways that, though with fewer aircraft than the former, says is set on flying to every African capital by 2014.
KQ, Africa’s fourth largest airline after South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and Egypt Air by seat numbers as per the January 2013 statistics, currently flies 10 times per week between Nairobi and Lilongwe, the political capital of Malawi.

ET operates three weekly flights to Blantyre and Ndola from its hub in Addis Ababa.Ethiopian, that currently flies to 45 destinations in Africa, also flies to Lilongwe.
