The Italian Institute of Culture in Nairobi is on May 17, 2013 at 7.00PM holding a historical exhibition on Italian fashion. Also in the programme is a a film from the period under focus .
Though Italians have dressed well for centuries, it wasn’t till 1951 in Florence that the country put its fashion on the world fashion map through a multi-designer show. That, says the Italian Institute, turned the spotlight on such pioneer designers as the Fontana Sisters and Contessa Visconti.
But it was the 1960s and 1970s that ushered new stars—Valentino, Lancetti, Krizia, Biagiotti—onto the fashion platform.
Now, the Institute is hosting an extra ordinary show of historical Italian fashion featuring the work of Gianna Brighetti, a famous model of the 1960s and 1970s who has lent her original designer outfits from those years to this show. Mariolina Risso Ricci, also an ex top model, has created the original display within picture frames of all dresses and scarves for this show.

Also being screened at the show is CRONOCACA DI UN AMORE (Chronicle of a Love Affair), a film directed by Michelangelo Antonioni in 1950. The film is in Italian with English subtitles.
