A month-long exhibition dubbed Wamama na Kazi (Women and work) opens at Nairobi National Museum (NNM) on October 5, 2013.
The exhibition, that ends on October 31, 2013, showcases the work of three artists–Caroline Mbirwa, Maryann Muthoni and Esther Mukuhi–who are described as “vibrant, active, and professional visual artists in Kenya and the East Africa region.”
Running in the Creativity Gallery between 8.30am and 5.30pm daily, NNM describes the exhibition as exploring “the Kenyan woman: her duties, her beauty and her love that brings about happiness, comfort, inspiration and calmness – and the rural and urban aspects of the Kenyan society that captures the beauty and diversity of our land and culture from our ancestral times.”
The three artists–all women–have participated in selected solo and joint exhibitions in Kenya and other countries, and have held workshops and residencies in Tanzania, Egypt, South Africa, Zambia and Mauritius.
Mbirwa, Muthoni and Mukuhi say they not only want to be the best in their field of work, travelling the world showcasing in major galleries and museums but to also create art that is collected by the top world collectors.
Wamama na Kazi exhibition moves to NNM after a one-day show on October 3, 2013 at Strut It Afrika Fashion week in Hurlingham, Nairobi.
