It is no secret that getting into shape is tough. Repeating the same gym routine over and over again can be unfulfilling and boring. This is why it is better to get into shape through participating in a sport activity. The best kind is a martial art from which you learn an important life skill, get into shape, boost your confidence and get to have great fun while doing so.
When you learn a martial art you learn how to defend yourself, feel more confident and become more independent. You will know how to defend yourself in a difficult situation. Although it is hoped you will not have to use what you learn in a real life situation, it is nevertheless worthwhile knowing how to do so.
One of the best and most popular forms of martial art to learn is karate, a striking sport that utilises punches, kicks, knee strikes, elbow strikes and open hand techniques.
Karate was first developed in the Ryukyu Islands and then brought to the Japanese mainland in the early 20th century. To engage in the physical sport skill, you do not require an expensive fitness equipment.

During the 1960s and 1970s there was an explosion of popularity in the art and the reason for this was the many martial art films that were being produced. Karate was being performed on screen by some of the best-known names in cinema, including Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li. This made karate very popular in the Western world and soon enough there were karate schools opening all around the world and more and more people were beginning to learn it.
It does not matter what your age, gender or level of fitness are as there will be a class suited to your abilities.

You will learn from experts in a fun, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. This also allows you to get to know others in the class and make some new friends. You are sure to love karate from your first lesson, and as you progress and learn new moves and skills you will look forward to learning more.
Learning karate is also a great way for you to get into shape as well, and it can be much more fulfilling and fun than going to the gym or running. These forms of exercise can seem like more of a chore, but as you will be learning while exercising it make it more fun and easier to do as well.
