A three-week art exhibition that introduces what is being referred to as Japan’s representative dolls, opens at Nairobi National Museum on February 5, 2015.

Titled The Dolls of Japan: Shapes of Prayer, Embodiments of Love, the exhibition displays what the organisers call Hina ningyo (Girls’ Festival dolls) and Gogatsu ningyo (Boys’ Day dolls) “which have their origins in ancient customs.”
Also on show shall be “dolls connected to traditional performing arts like noh, bunrakuand kabuki; regional dolls from throughout the country; and ‘creative dolls’ produced by contemporary crafts people.”
The exhibition, that shall be open 8.30 AM-5.30 PM daily, is presented by National Museums of Kenya in collaboration with Embassy of Japan in Kenya and Japan Foundation.
Meanwhile, The Little Theatre Club in Kenya’s ancient coastal town, Mombasa, is set to host a two-day comedy play in Kiswahili titled ‘Mathezo Gharama’ on February 6-7, 2015.
Presenting the play that shall begin at 7.00 PM on both days and for which gate charges are Sh600 per person is a group called The Friends Ensemble.

So what is Mathezo Gharama, that targets an ‘Adults Only’ audience, about?
The Friends Ensemble, whose motto is Redefining Theatre Brilliance! say Mathezo Gharama “is an adult-humoured comedy about marital infidelities and their warring consequences. What could have been a friendly dinner among two couples trying to strike friendship turns out to be a social nightmare after unexpected revelations take centre stage.”
