Zanzibar International Film Festival has on March 16, 2015 announced the film line up for its 18th annual Festival of the Dhow Countries scheduled for July 18-26, 2015.
Held on the theme, Waves and Visions of HopeĀ, the festival, that shall be held in Stonetown, a UNESCO-declared World Heritage Site, says it has selected 43 short films, 30 documentaries and 25 fictions from 41 countries that it shall showcase over nine days.
The festival shall open on July 18, 2015 with the Golden Globe-winning civil rights film, SELMA.
Prof Martin Mhando, the ZIFF Festival Director, says, “ZIFF prides itself on showcasing films with strong social messages. In 2014 we opened ZIFF with the Mandela film, Long Walk to Freedom, and we are especially proud in 2015 to open with another international film that focuses on an icon of civil and human rights, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Selma will be an inspirational way to open ZIFF 2015 and to highlight our focus on hope and social change.”
