A group of youth who specialise in performance and screen arts are set to be celebrated in Nairobi at the end of February.
The group, known as Geatrics Production, shall also perform a skit and a dance as their debut film premieres during the 98th bi-monthly Lola Kenya Screen film forum at Goethe-Institut on February 27, 2017.
“Our group was formed in 2014 with the aim of nurturing young talents in acting,dance, art and music,” says Victor Layson. “We’ve managed to stage several plays and shot our first film over this period.”
Layson says STAINS, the short film he directed, revolves around a girl who, following the death of her parents, is forced to live with relatives.

“The aims of LKSff are to build capacity in the movie sector of Kenya and eastern Africa; and to help turn moviemaking in the region into a sustainable industry,” says Ogova Ondego, the creative director of Lola Kenya Screen of which LKSff is a part.
He says that besides being one of the first places where new films can be seen and young talent spotted, LKSff is focused on equipping players in the movie sector with requisite skills in moviemaking, event programming, public speaking, theme-based discussion moderation, cultural journalism and criticism, promotion and marketing, and resource-mobilisation.
Consequently, Ondego says, “LKSff deals with all sorts of short moving images: Public Service Announcements (PSAs), Commercials, Animations, Experimentals, Avant-Garde, Documentaries, Music Videos, and Fictions.”

As per tradition that has characterized LKSff over the past 12 years, the crew and cast of the movie in focus are usually in the house to introduce and present their work, field questions and network with movie lovers.
Among those to bask in the spotlight on February 27 shall include actors Faine Nyaboke, Passie Njeri, Gordon Odhiambo, Benard Onwong’a, Francis Mimi, Nelson Momanyi, Walter Mwori, Daniel Githinji, Joy Njoki and Sarah Masive.
The crew members include cameraman Felix Kamau,director Victor Layson, assistant director Hempstone Groin and lights technician Benard Onwong’a.

LKSff, that is its 12th year, is presented by ComMattersKenya consultancy in collaboration with Goethe-Institut.
