Dear artist, have you entered your work for Art Olympia 2017 contest? The deadline for doing so is March 31, 2017.And that is just 11 days away from today.
I guess you want to hear more about this biennial international open art contest that is scheduled for Tokyo, Japan, don’t you?
The organisers of Art Olympia 2017 say the main goals of the competition that is open to artists all over the world are to discover young talented artists and to support their global art careers. In view of this, Art Olympia 2017 has a special category for Student artists.
All non-Japan resident artists are asked to submit their work online to New York in the United States of America for the first round of judging their two-dimensional photographic works. If they are selected, the final final review of the material in Tokyo will be done with real artworks, using what the organisers call a “point rating system” that allows “the public to check the reviewing process to ensure fairness and transparency.”
The organisers of the contest say Art Olympia 2017 shall give away US$500000 in cash awards and prizes to 180 selected artists from around the world. But to be considered, one has to apply online via the artolympia.info website.
As you consider submitting your work to Art Olympia, a three-day exhibition of photographs is opening in Ngong Hills on the outskirts of southern Nairobi. Yes, you heard right; an art exhibition opens in Sungura House in Ngong Hills Town, March 30-April 1, 2017; it shall be open daily, 9:00AM-6:00 PM.
Organised by Elveza community newsletter to commemorate its first anniversary, the organisers say their show is likely to appeal to any one with an interest in journalism, photography, videography, social work, sports, religion, environmental conservation, community development.
They says they “have taken great care to ensure the photographs [on show] are suitable for students and [any one] under 18 years.”
Sungura House is opposite the Mosque on Ngong-Kiserian Road within Ngong Hills. There is no gate fee.
Elveza newsletter, that has organised the exhibition, says it covers monthly news updates in Bulbul, Oloolua, Olkeri, Kibiku, Matasia and Ngong within Kajiado North sub-County on the outskirts of the outskirts of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

If you can’t make it to the show at the beginning and end of the famous Ngong Road, you surely can make it to Museum Hill where an exhibition titled Annabelle’s world of colour! is running through April 16, 2017.
Publicity information from the curator of the show says the artist, Annabelle Wanjiku Reeno, made her name on the Kenyan art scene in the 1980s.
“A mother and grandmother, Annabelle Reeno is a fun and engaging person who is passionate about family unity,” the curator at Nairobi National Museum where the show is running says. “The multiple coloured shades in her paintings are symbolic of the virtues of humanity; peace, love, cohesion as well as strength in body and spirit. “In nurturing of cohesive families lies the strength of any nation. Each person virtually needs the other in search for sustenance in life”
Annabelle Wanjiku Reeno, who is currently based in Uganda where she works with the church while still furthering her career as an artist, is said to be inspired by nature, African traditional cultural values and environment.
“I consistently express these feelings and creative energy on canvas,” says Annabelle Wanjiku Reeno whose work has been exhibited extensively locally and internationally.

Kenya’s coastal city of Mombasa, too, has its own conference and expo that shall bring together representatives of maritime industry, government authorities, ports authorities, technology providers, suppliers of equipment, and consulting firms to discuss the challenges and look at best-practices in African ports and harbours from the north to the south, the west to the east, and all places in between.
