Commonwealth Writers invites poetry and nonfiction writing in English from writers in the Commonwealth countries for publication in the 2017–2018 period. The deadline for receiving manuscripts is July 3, 2017 at 11:59 PM (any time zone).
Saying it is “looking to select a broad range of writers, particularly those with a story that hasn’t been heard before”, Commonwealth Writers says it is “offering one-off commissions for Poetry and Nonfiction only.”

For Nonfiction submissions, you are required to upload:
- One nonfiction piece (1500–5000 words), or an outline of what you want to write and why (750 words maximum)
- A description of your writing history (300 words maximum).
“If we offer you a nonfiction commission, there may also be a small expenses fund available to help research your nonfiction piece e.g. local travel,” Commonwealth Writers says. “Please state in your submission if you would need us to help with research expenses and what these would be.”
And what does Nonfiction submission entail?
It “can include creative nonfiction, memoir, photo or narrative essay,” the organisation says.
To submit poetry, one is expected to upload:

Saying “There are no subject restrictions,” Commonwealth Writers stresses that “No previously published work will be considered, including work published in anthologies or chapbooks online or in print.”
