A month-long art exhibition by street children is set to open at Nairobi National Museum in the Kenyan capital on April 5, 2018.
The exhibition that is organised by an organisation called Alfajiri Street Kids Organisation, a community-based organisation whose name, Alfajiri, means ‘Dawn in Kiswahili’, consists of paintings, drawings, photographs and a short documentary by street children and youth.
The show, based on the art, experiences and writings of children and youth forced to live on the streets and rubbish dump sites of Nairobi by circumstances, is described as being an illustration of the vision behind the organisation that seeks to rehabilitate children from the streets of the Kenyan metropolis.

The exhibition shall run in the Temporary Gallery of Kenya’s house of culture through April 29, 2018.
Meanwhile, a new poetry chapbook is available for purchase.
Titled Tano and edited by Kwame Dawes and Chris Abani of the African Poetry Book Fund project at the University of Nebraska in the United States of America, this is the newest edition of the New Generation African Poets series.

The 12-piece, limited-edition box set features the work of 11 new African poets who include Leila Chatti, Amanda Holiday, Omotara James, Yalie Kamara, Rasaq Malik, Umniya Najaer, Kechi Nomu, Romeo Oriogun, Henk Rossouw, Alexis Teyie and Saddiq Dzukogi.
