BBC World Service says BBC News Somali is 'a leading international radio broadcaster in Somalia and from their new base in Nairobi, the radio team continue to serve Somali audiences with dedication through a mix of daily radio programmes' that comprise 150 minutes of daily programming of current affairs, news analysis, arts, culture and sports; a flagship 60-minute News programme, Dunida Iyo Maanta; and 30 minutes of entertainment news every Thursday.A well known presenter return to the BBC News Somali team following a year-long career break.

The presenter, Abdirizak Atosh, is set to return to BBC News Somali radio programmes from October 1, 2019.

Describing Atosh as a veteran presenter with more than 20 years of service, the multi-platform international broadcaster says his return comes just a few months after the relocation of all BBC News Somali radio programmes from the British capital, London, to Nairobi in Kenya.

The presenter, Abdirizak Atosh, is set to return to BBC News Somali radio programmes fromOctober 1, 2019.Abdullahi Abdi, Editor of BBC News Somali says, “Atosh is a popular presenter with an exceptional connection to Somali audiences and we look forward to having him back on air. We expect his return will help us further engage with our audiences, and add a lot of energy to the Nairobi-based excellent teams.”

The BBC World Service news release says BBC News Somali has increased its audience by more than 60% in the last year, and that it now reaches 5.9 million people weekly across the Somali-speaking world.
