Beet Root or Garden Beet is a vegetable whose root is rich in calcium, iron, potassium and vitamin C.
The deep red root crop takes 60 – 70 days to mature and can be eaten either as a cooked vegetable or raw as a salad. Its leaves, that nutritionists say contain vitamin A, can be used as vegetables.

Beet Root requires moderate rainfall and thrives in deep and well drained, loose, loamy soils, 16 – 27 degrees Celsius temperature in 1500 – 2200 metres above sea level altitudes.

The fields in which beet root is grown should be well watered and free of weeds. A farmer can harvest 5 – 9 tonnes of beet root per hectare.To keep long, it is recommended that the harvested crop be stored in cool and dry places.
Besides consumption locally, beet root can also be exported.
