Teshome Wondimu, director of Selam, with Lucy Ilado who has been appointed Selam regional director for AfricaA company that pledges to take Ethiopian musicians to the global market has been launched.

The owners of the company known as Muzikawi say it is established as a record label, music publisher, studio, artist management and event organiser with offices in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and Stockholm (Sweden).

“Muzikawi is built on 17 years of experience in Ethiopian music culture combined with 25 years of international music industry experience,” says Teshome Wondimu, director of Selam under whose wing the new initiative is established. “With 17 years of curation and representation in all regions we understand and honour the culture of Ethiopia. We who curate the music are experienced producers, musicians and music industry professionals from Ethiopia and Sweden, one of the world’s biggest music exporters. Located in the heart of Addis Ababa we run one of Ethiopia’s top studios with certified studio engineers and state of the art equipment.”

Every week from April 1 and throughout 2022, Wondimu says, “we will present 16 artists and more than 100 releases!”
