UNESCO has announced the opening of registration for "Digital Content Creators and Journalists: How to Be a Trusted Voice Online", its free online course.UNESCO has announced the opening of registration for “Digital Content Creators and Journalists: How to Be a Trusted Voice Online“, its free online course.

Developed in partnership with The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas, the four-week self-paced course is expected to equip digital content creators and journalists with essential skills and knowledge to navigate digital challenges, communicate professionally and advocate for transparent, human rights-based online practices.

The course that is offered in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, starts on November 18, 2024 and participants will receive a certificate upon completion.

Ensuring that they provide ethical, credible and professional content is essential to addressing misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech on digital platforms,” UNESCO says. “Despite their growing reach, many content creators face significant challenges including the lack of institutional support, guidance, and recognition. There is an urgent need for a framework that acknowledges their contributions while equipping them with the skills to uphold high standards of ethical communication.”

UNESCO Invites Digital Content Creators, Influencers and Journalists to Free Online CourseUNESCO, that says it ‘recognizes the vital role digital content creators play in the modern media ecosystem,’ says it is not only empowering them by working ‘toward a more informed, connected, and media literate society, aligning with [UNESCO]’s broader mission of defending freedom of expression, promoting human rights and fostering ethical practices in the digital era.”

UNESCO says the course provides a space where content creators and journalists come together, share insights and learn from one another.
