Swahili Fashion Week & Awards, an annual fashion event, is expected to celebrate style, innovation and African creativity when it holds in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, December 6-8, 2024.

The organisers of the three-day event that is held at Parthenon Hall/Greek Hellenic Club on Ali Hassan Mwinyi Road, say it is featuring more than 40 fashion designers.

Among the designers participating in the event are Sliq Shedafa, Reen Fashion Flair (Morogoro), Kai Zuri by Sristi Bosco, Zawadi from Zanzibar, Asili by Naliaka, Reen Collection, Abestina Apparel, Bilan Facon, Nyuzi CAD, M2MOKO (Zanzibar), Zuh Fashion, Jojo African Designs (Dodoma), JESAKUDO, BK Brand,Charm n Elegance, The Seamstress Tanzania, Mkwandule’Son, JVS, Vola Attire,Katty Collection, Redlove Designs, Blackcherry, Fiderine’s House Of Catwalk and Fashion, Rackel, Dida (Italy), Iterik (Uganda), Jane Jaquin (Mayotte), Kerby Young Designs (Trinidad and Tobago), Kushweet (Kenya), NOORTRIBE (Italy) and Rheets Hanbok (South Korea).

Since its inception in 2008, the organisers say, Swahili Fashion Week has been a beacon for designers from Kiswahili-speaking countries and beyond, providing a platform to showcase their collections, market their creativity, and connect with the global fashion industry.
“Over the years, the event has cemented its position as a key driver of African fashion, blending cultural heritage with modern design to inspire audiences worldwide.”

The event, the organisers say, “will shine a spotlight on sustainability in fashion. Designers will showcase collections that integrate eco-friendly materials, ethical production methods and circular design, emphasizing the ‘Made in Africa’ ethos. The goal is to position African fashion as a leader in sustainable practices, demonstrating how the continent’s rich heritage can contribute to a greener global future.”
