Artists with at least five years’ experience and backed by reference from recognised institutions are wanted in Nairobi to create and install original work for public display in the air hub of eastern Africa, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

National Museums of Kenya (NMK), a state corporation that collects, preserves, studies, documents and presents Kenya’s cultural and natural heritage and that is in charge of the project, is inviting artists to apply for the tender to create and install the said art in JKIA’s newly-completed Terminal 1A.
The art installation includes:
a). Wall Mural (open to artists working within a registered artists’ groups only), and
b). Sculptural artworks in casting, carving, assemblage and modeling using various material (open to both individuals and groups).
NMK invites eligible artists to obtain detailed tender documents from its Procurement Office upon payment of non-refundable fee of Sh1 000 for each set of documents.

JKIA, that was opened in 1958 as Embakasi Airport before being renamed Nairobi International Airport at independence in 1963 and then JKIA in honour of Kenya’s founding President Jomo Kenyatta who died in 1978, serves at least five million passengers annually.
Terminal 1A, that was constructed at the cost of Sh9.3 Billion, is expected to serve an additional 2.5 million passengers annually through its 32 check in counters, seven boarding bridges and automated baggage handling system. Its extended parking lot is expected to hold some 1 500 more motor vehicles at any one time.
