The third edition of the annual Swahili Fashion Week that is bringing 24 designers from various Swahili speaking African Countries, started on November 4, 2010 at Karimjee Gardens and will continue until November 6, 2010.

“We are happy that everything is going well as planned. A lot of preparation and organisation has gone into this year’s event. All the 24 designers are looking to make this an annual calendar event hosted by home of Swahili Fashion Week, Southern Sun” explains Mustafa Hassanali, organiser of Swahili Fashion Week.

“We are again delighted to be associated with Swahili Fashion Week in 2010 and to help promote home-grown fashion as well as welcome their international designers as our guests. Southern Sun prides itself in being a big supporter of African fashion and the arts and this is an opportunity for us to do so again,” says southern sun general manager, Adam Fuller.

The opening day saw Manju Msita (Tanzania), Sonu Sharma (Kenya), Shelina Ebrahim (Tanzania/Canada) Malaria Haikubaliki (Tanzania – Various), Farha Sultan (Tanzania), Tanzania Mitindo House (Tanzania – Various), Kemi Kalikawe (Tanzania) and Asia Idarous (Tanzania) all showcasing their creative flair and talent.

On Friday, November 5,  Tanzania’s own Jamilla Vera Swai will showcase along  with Marinella Rodriguez (Mozambique), Stella Atal (Uganda), Kooroo (Kenya), Zamda George (Tanzania), Mafi Designs (Ethiopia), Moo Cow (Kenya), Robi Morro (Tanzania), Made by Africa (Tanzania) and Asos Africa (UK) as part of Origin Africa Showcase.

On the final day of Swahili Fashion Week 2010, the Emerging Designers Competition will start the show with a variety of up-and-coming talents showcasing to win this prestigious award.

Following the competition’s conclusion, Gabriel Mollel (Tanzania), Khadija Mwanamboka (Tanzania), KikoRomeo (Kenya), John Kaveke (Kenya), Chichia London (Tanzania/UK), Ailinda Sawe (Tanzania), and Mpo Kuoho (Botswana) will present their latest collections in the final showcase of Swahili Fashion Week 2010.

Southern Sun shall also award the best dressed guest at Fashion week a prize in an effort to support and promote the African fashion and Style.
