The Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) is calling for feature length films, short and documentary entries for its 2013 edition, to be held in April in Nigeria, home to Nollywood–the world’s third largest film industry.
Only films produced, premiered or released between December 2011 and November 2012 are eligible,” says Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, the AMAA founder and CEO. “Features may not exceed 120 minutes and shorts should not be longer than 40 minutes.”
In a statement released to the media on August 20, 2012, Anyiam-Osigwe says that “since its inception in 2005 AMAA has established itself as the most prestigious and glamorous awards celebrating filmmaking on the continent. The gala event, which is televised live around the world, attracts Hollywood celebrities alongside their African counterparts, as well as African politicians and media.”
The deadline for submission to AMAA that marks its 9th edition in 2013, is December 30, 2012. Film submission forms can be downloaded from ama-awards.com
The films that are nominated will be announced in February 2013.
Among the winning films for the 8th AMAA in 2012 were How to steal 2 Million of South Africa (Best Film), The Legend of Ngong Hills of Kenya (Best Animation), and Braids On Bald Head of Nigeria (Best Short Film).

While South African Terry Pheto was crowned Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in How 2 Steal 2 Million), Fana Mokoena, also of South Africa, was declared Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in a South Africa and Nigeria co-production, Man On Ground.
Ghanaian Majid Michel won the Best Actor in a Leading Role award for Somewhere In Africa while Nigerian Rita Dominic took away the crown for
Best Actress in a Leading Role for her starring role in a Kenyan production, Shattered.
The Best Director award went to Charlie Vundla, the South African director of How 2 Steal 2 Million.
