Nigerian filmmaker Tunde Kelani showcases MAAMi, his latest film, at the Africa in Motion Scotland Film Festival in Edinburgh and Glasgow on October 30 and 31, 2012.
Kelani is a highly acclaimed filmmaker and a driving force behind the hugely popular and prolific Nollywood home video sector. Working variously as director, producer, cinematographer, editor, writer and actor, Kelani has been making films in Nigeria for more than 20 years.
MAAMi,is the story of a poor, devoted single parent’s struggles to raise her only child, Kashimawo, who goes on to become an international star in an English football club, and consequently, a national hero. Set over a two-day period in the southern Nigerian town of Abeokuta leading up to the 2010 World Cup, the film retrospectively accounts Kashimawo’s childhood through his own thoughts, addressing his turbulent childhood and unresolved issues with his absent father.

Nigerian film academic and Nollywood expert Onookome Okome is expected to introduce the screening and conduct a symposium and a seminar on Nollywood at the University of Edinburgh on October 27 and 31, 2012, respectively.
