SFW

Fashion designers in eastern Africa are invited to apply for participation in the second Swahili Fashion Week (SFW) in Nairobi, Kenya, on April 5, 2014. Application material is on swahilihashionweek.com and the deadline is February 28, 2014.

Projected as a platform for fashion and accessories designers from Kiswahili-speaking countries, mainly in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa region, the Dar es Salaam-based SFW brings together designers to showcase their talent, market their creativity and network with the international fashion industry.

A SFW media statement says the organisation, that is in its seventh year since its founding by fashion designer Mustafa Hassanali in 2008, exists to “emphasise that fashion is an income-generating industry while promoting a ‘Made in East Africa’ brand.”

Among other objectives, SFW seeks to:
*Promote East African fashion brands
*Improve the quality and output of design from East Africa
*Provide a platform for up-and-coming young designers in the region, and
*Create opportunities for East African products in African Diaspora.
