An initiative touted as Namibia’s first film marketing and distribution organisation is set for launch in Windhoek on April 15, 2014.
The launch of the company, Independence Avenue Films, shall be marked with the Namibian premiere of Cameroonian director Jean-Pierre Bekolo’s 63-minute film, THE PRESIDENT and Moroccan Najat Jellab’s THE PROJECTIONIST, a 20-minute film made in 2013.
While THE PRESIDENT is a fictionalised look at current affairs in an African country and poses questions about the responsibility of those in power, THE PROJECTIONIST is a wake up call for anyone who is indifferent to the world around one.

THE PRESIDENT, set on the night before an important summit, is the story of developments following the sudden disappearance of the the Head of State. The film won Best Short Film Award at USA’s Harlem International Film Festival in September 2013 and received Special Mention at Egypt’s 3rd Luxor African Film Festival in March 2014.

Inviting “interested members of the Namibian film and arts industry, the wider public and cultural-interested people to the launch” at Warehouse Theatre at 7.00PM local time, Independence Avenue Films says it “will serve as an institution to tackle the challenges faced by Namibian film products in terms of distribution, agency and marketing.”
Independence Avenue Films further pledges “to focus on film related events, as we believe in the need and possibility to establish a cinema culture in Namibia.”
