Seventy-nine films from 35 countries are lined up for screening during the 17th annual edition of the Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) that is scheduled for Stone Town in Zanzibar June 14-22, 2014.

The 10-day festival on the theme ‘A common destiny’ and consisting of live music, art exhibition and film shows shall begin with the screening of the Oscar-nominated South African film, MANDELA: A LONG WALK TO FREEDOM on June 14, 2014.
Thirteen music groups from Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi and South Africa are scheduled to entice audiences over the nine nights of the festival. Senegalese Didier Awadi is lined up to perform on the opening night of the festival.

An exhibition from France, the Tryptic by Les 7 Portes/Sisygambis will be on offer for seven days of the festival while popular art and fashion exhibition Afrika Tumefika from Uganda will also be featured.
“Over two dozen filmmakers from around the world presenting their works will also be in attendance taking part in workshops, networking events and film pitching contest,†Festival Director Martin Mhando, says. “A special Script writing workshop will also be held.â€
A film production Workshop for East African filmmakers sponsored by the East African Community in partnership with the German International cooperation Agency (GIZ) shall also be held as shall a Scriptwriting workshop in Kiswahili from which the best script shall receive a US$2,000 award for its production into a film within three months; it is organised by Maisha Film Lab of Uganda.
