giving birth to the africa we wantSenegalese President Macky Sall, former Uganda Finance Minister Maria Kiwanuka, and African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka are set to be the first recipients of the AllAfrica Awards in the US American capital, Washingtone, DC, on April 17, 2015.

According to a Press Release from AllAfrica Media, the work of the three Africans–Sall, Kiwanuka and Kaberuka–that was “selected by Africans and friends of Africa, represent leadership in strategic planning for economic development; for mobilizing development financing; and for championing inclusive economic growth, peace and security. The awards presentation will be preceded by an interactive discussion on the theme: ‘Reimagining Africa: Giving Birth to the Africa We Want’.”

While President Sall shall receive the Economic Leadership Award “in recognition of his envisioning and direction of the Emerging Senegal Plan,” Kaberuka, a citizen of Rwanda, is set to accept the Champion Award “in recognition of his relentless efforts over the past ten years as head of the premier continental financial institution.”

Maria Kiwanuka, on her part, shall receive the Patriot Award “for her advocacy of inclusive growth and development in Uganda.

AllAfrica Media says “African finance ministers and ambassadors and American government, civil society and private sector leaders are expected to attend the event.”
