Egypt’s Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) has announced its selection of films in competition and jury members.
The films selected for the Long Narrative Competition are REVERIES OF THE SOLITARY ACTOR by Hamid Benamra (Algeria); WITHOUT REGRET by Jacques Trabi (Ivory Coast); SHADOW OF MADNESS by Boubacar Gakou (Mali); STARVE YOUR DOG by Hicham Lasri (Morocco); THE UNSEEN by Perivi John Katjavivi (Namibia); THE MISSING GOD by Ubaka Joseph Ugochukwu (Nigeria); and MONA by Anthony Abuah (Nigeria).

The Jury that shall judge these films consists of director Flora Gomes (Guinea Bissau); director Moussa Toure (Senegal); actor Driss el-Rokh (Morocco); actress Sawsan Badr (Egypt); and director Magdy Ahmed Aly (Egypt).
In contention for the Long Documentary award are FUNERAL OF MY FATHER by Lorenzo Mbiahou & Milosine Tchetkou (Cameroon); NEVER THEY WERE NOT CHILDREN by Mahmoud Soliman (Egypt); THE LAST FLIGHT by Jackie Lebo (Kenya); DUTY TO REMEMBER by Mamadou Cisse (Mali); THE BREAD ROAD by Hicham Elladdaqi (Morocco); THE WOMEN OF THE CLOCK by Raja Sediki (Morocco); SEMBENE by Jason Silverman & Samba Gadjigo (Senegal); THE FOURTH SEASON by Mohamed Zran (Tunisia); ROUNDABOUT IN MY HEAD by Hassen Ferhani (Morocco); A MAN FOR MY FAMILY by Thierno Souleymane Diallo (Guinea); RENDALA LE MIKEA by Alain Rakotoarisoa (Madagascar); ROCK INSPIRED by Famous Odion Iraoya (Nigeria); and THE SIREN OF FASO FANI by Micheal Zongo (Burkina Faso).
Those to judge the films in this category are producer Pedro Pimenta (Mozambique); film critic Hans-Christian Mahnke (Germany); director Jihane El-Tahiry (Egypt); director Khaled El-Haggar (Egypt); and DoP Wael Saber (Egypt).

The films competing for the Freedom award include BEASTS OF NO NATION by Cary Jojy Fukunaga (USA); TOWARDS THE FOREST OF SNOW by Robin Hunzinger (Ivory Coast); FREETOWN by Garrett Batty (Sierra Leone); TENTMAKERS OF CAIRO by Kim Beamish (Australia); INDEPENDENCE by Mario Bastos (Angola); CRUMBS by Miguel Llansó (Ethiopia); VISARANAI by Vetri Maaran (India); GNONNOU by Agnes-Maritza Boulmer (Benin); LITTLE GO GIRLS by Eliane De Latour (France); and THE MAN WHO MENDS WOMEN by Thierry Michel (Congo-Brazzaville).
The Jury of the Freedom Award shall be headed by US star Danny Glover. Other members of the panel are film critic Olivier Barlet (France); actress and director Ahd Kamel (Saudi Arabia); director Ahmed Maher (Egypt); and novelist Ebtihal El-Shayeb (Egypt).
