Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi has been granted category 1 status by the United States of America’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
This paves way for direct flights to commence between Nairobi and USA.This is likely to be good news for Kenya’s flag carrier, Kenya Airways (KQ), that has been coveting the US route for a while now.This could also enable KQ to compete effectively against Ethiopia’s Ethiopian, South Africa’s South African and Morocco’s Air Maroc that already have direct flights to USA from Addis Ababa, Johannesburg and Casablanca.

Analysts say direct flights between Kenya and USA will greatly enhance tourism and trade as the latter is now the former’s largest source market for tourists, having overtaken Britain in 2016.
Meanwhile, an exhibition on ‘Love’ opened to the public on February 14, St Valentine’s Day, at Nairobi National Museum (NNM).

Titled Upendo: A celebration of Love, the exhibition that runs through March 30 celebrates ‘Love’ with paintings, photography, sculpture and objects and stories from what NNM says is from its collection.
In its publicity, NNM says “Love can be considered a state of mind that only exists within a spiritual space. It is a feeling that is neither visible nor tangible. Love has been expressed in various ways through generations; it is said to transcend all senses and to reside in one’s life and soul.”
In this exhibition that opened to the public on 14 February, St Valentine’s Day, we celebrate love with paintings, photography, sculpture as well as objects and stories from our museum collection.

Also running at this Kenya’s house of culture March 3-25 is Butterflies, an exhibition of recent works by Jeffie Magina that is aimed at celebrating the International Women’s Day and Month 2017.
Describing it as “a tribute to the girl child,” NNM says “Butterflies is a journey through an eventful passage of life.”
Jeffie Magina creates a story-line around the everyday lives of girls using various media.
