Michael Owora, Team Manager for Team Tri Fit Kenya (TTF) that organising the national duathlon and triathlon series across Kenya says the Diani Triathlon that is scheduled for December 3, 2017 “has been marked as an official qualifying race for Team Kenya to the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 3rd Africa Youth Games.”

The Diani Triathlon has two races–the Sprint Distance (750m Swim, 20KM Bike, 5KM Run) and Olympic Distance (1.5KM, 40KM Bike, 10KM Run)–that will, respectively, act as the qualifier for the Youth Team and the Commonwealth Games.

While the 2018 Commonwealth Games will be held on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia (April 4-15), the African Youth Games will be held in Algiers, Algeria (July 19-28).

The Youth Games target athletes aged 14-18 while the Commonwealth Games targets adultss. Each team is expected to comprise six individuals split evenly between male and female genders.

Team Tri Fit says registration of participants in the event is open and can be done online.

How does it work?

“TTF has created two race categories in the triathlon with one for those solely focused on qualifying for the games and another for those out to beat a personal record, achieve a milestone or just have fun,” Owora says

But if one does not feel like doing triathlon, Owora says TTF has “other events on offer that day that include the 21KM trail run, duathlon (run, bike, run), team triathlon challenge, kids triathlon and duathlon races.”
