A private security guard confronts an 'offending' member of the public in Kenya.A public meeting to discuss private security training in Kenya shall be held in Nairobi on May 29, 2018.

The meeting, titled Networked Society of Professional Security Professionals in Kenya and bringing together players in the private security sector, shall be held at Kenya International Leadership University in Upper Hill, Nairobi.

This comes at a time of deteriorating security in the East African country whose residents are calling for monitoring and regulation a rapidly growing private security sector as the Government toys with the idea of giving fire arms to private security guards to assist regular police in containing rising crime in urban areas.

Institute of Professional Security Studies (IPSS), says the Professional Security Forum shall also 'brainstorm and and share experiences on what can be done to fully professionalise the industry, enhance its performance and experiences'.Among the objectives of the meeting shall be to ‘reflect, evaluate and discuss the security training standards and career path for security professionals in the private security sector prior to the enforcement of the Private Security Regulatory Act Number 13 of 2016 that calls for the registration of all security firms and training and proper remuneration for private security guards.

The organisers of the meeting, Institute of Professional Security Studies (IPSS), says the Professional Security Forum shall also ‘brainstorm and and share experiences on what can be done to fully professionalise the industry, enhance its performance and experiences’.

Private security guards at workLt Col Julius Githiri, the Executive Director of IPSS, says the three-hour quarterly meeting that shall start at 2:00 PM is open to firms, consultants, investigators, institutions and any one involved in private security sector in Kenya.

It is expected that the meeting, according to Lt Col Githiri, will ‘foster among all professionals the spirit of togetherness, solidarity, service and sense of responsibility towards their fraternity and general public’.
