Zanzibar stands among the first African destinations for early travellers from India, China, and the Middle East. Rich cultures and old Arabic architecture pull thousands of tourists to the island each year.Zanzibar is preparing for a travel and tourism marketing exhibition for domestic and international tourism industry in October 2018.

The event, dubbed The Zanzibar Tourism Show that is scheduled for October 17 – 20, is expected to attract more than 150 travel and tourism business companies across the world.

The exhibition will run under the theme “Responsible Tourism for A Better and A Greener Tomorrow.” It will also put a thrust on marketing Zanzibar as a leading tourist destination in East Africa.

Dr Ali Mohammed Shein, the the 7th President of the archipelago who has been in office since 2010, says his government is, through joint venture business programs with private investors in tourism, targeting to attract 500 000 tourists annually with about 6,200 tourist hotel beds in 6 classes of accommodation by 2020 in line with its Vision 2020 agenda.

Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Zanzibar’s Information, Tourism and Heritage Minister, says the upcoming Zanzibar Tourism Show is a unique event meant to demonstrate the readiness of Zanzibar to expand and diversify investment opportunities in the tourism sector.
