Nikita Jepchumba Kering has just completed her Advanced Level (A-Level) studies.
In a post on LinkedIn, Kering, who started singing in her toddler days, admits, tongue-in-cheek, that balancing school work against a busy singing career has been a delicate act.
“The one question every interviewer asks me is, ‘how do you balance school and music?’ And the easiest way to answer is, ‘I just plan and prioritize,’ Kering, who was in the Class of 2020 at Brookhouse School in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, writes.
Oh, so in planning lies the secret of her success?

“The one thing I never forget to add is that it has been one of the HARDEST things to do'” she writes.
How so?
“I flopped some tests here and there because of music and flopped some performances because of too much class work. Out of this, I have learnt to PRIORITIZE!” she writes.
What is next?
“I have just completed my A-Levels and still have Uni[versity] to go??????,” writes the 18-year-old.
“I thank my Family, Teachers, coaches, mentors, and all those who walked this journey with me.
Above all, I thank God for the amazing blessings,” she writes. “Yes! We made it! #Brookhouse #Classof2020.”

But before taking the next step to university, Kering says she is currently in the studio working on her Extended Play (EP) record set for release in August 2020.
Oh, what is an EP?
An EP is a musical recording that contains more tracks than a single but runs short of being described as an LP (Long Play) or full length album.

Nikita Jepchumba Kering’s tight studio schedule partly explains why she and I haven’t had our long chat on EP and LP yet. But I am still hopeful that it shall happen soon.
So wait we shall.
Yes, Nikita Kering says the recording being done now was to have happened in March. That is four months ago. But the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) cropped up in Kenya and the country, in an attempt to contain the pandemic, went into immediate restriction of movement and public gatherings mode.It isn’t easy embarking on any project during the COVID-19 period. But Nikita Jepchumba Kering has completed high school and shall release the EP soon. And then go on to university to pursue a career whose line she is still cagey about. For now.
