As Kenya eases pandemic-containment measures, the country is opening up for business, sports and other social and cultural community matters.
Endurance sports organisers Team Tri Fit (TTF) have officially rolled out registration for the inaugural Chale Island Triathlon set for Sunday, May 29, at Chale Island Hotel from 2:00 PM.
The event will see triathletes complete a 1KM open water swim around the beautiful Chale Island, followed by a 30KM Off Road Cycle and 7KM run through the hinterlands of Diani, Galu and Chale.

TTF say the event is open to amateur and professional triathletes aged 17 years and older with two race options to choose from: –
- Individual Triathlon – Swim 1KM, Cycle 30KM, Run 7KM, and
- Team Relay – Swim 1KM, Cycle 30KM, Run 7KM (team of two or three)

“To help you race hard and travel easy, TTF has secured airfare with Fly 748 at Sh12,840 return for all participants on a first come first serve basis. To book your preferred flight, please fill in the form and choose the flight option and the team will do the rest,” TTF say.”This year, TTF will be partnering with Fargo Courier in respect to bike transportation. Together with your registration form, we have a section that will let you book for this service that will have your bike transported too and from Chale Island at a fee of Sh1,800.”

Michael Owora, Team Manager at TTF, says: “Sands at Chale Island Hotel is situated 15KM from the Diani Shopping center and is accessible by car, tuk tuk and boda boda. Our host venue (Sands at Chale Island) will offer all participants a 20% discount on bed and breakfast accommodation for the event. To book your stay with them, please let us know via return mail and we will have them contact you.”
He says a host of accommodation options is available in Diani, Chale and Galu that are open to all participants coming in for the event.
“The hotels include, but are not limited to The Sands At Nomad Hotel, Jacaranda Indian Ocean Beach Resort, Baobab Beach Resort, Neptune Paradise Beach Resort & Spa, Diani Reef Beach Resort and Spa, Leopard Beach Hotel, Galu Inn, PrideInn Hotel Diani, Diani Campsite and Cottages, Diani Backpackers, and Wayside Apartments,” he writes.
