Work Begins on the Proposed Nairobi-Thika Expressway with Design and Feasibility StudyThe government of Kenya has begun the design and feasibility study for the proposed 60-kilometre Nairobi-Thika Expressway.

1). The expressway will be built above the existing Thika Superhighway, starting from Thika town and ending at Museum Hill in Nairobi where it will join directly to the Nairobi Expressway which begins at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Machakos2). The feasibility study is expected to establish key routes, engineering requirements, traffic capacity, estimated construction cost, environmental and social impact and land requirements for the project3). The study will also assess traffic along the busy Nairobi-Thika Highway and determine how the proposed elevated expressway will boost capacity for motorists plying the route

The government of Kenya has begun the design and feasibility study for the proposed 60-kilometre Nairobi-Thika Expressway.4). The Nairobi -Thika Expressway is projected to cost Sh200 billion, with the road expected to be done under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP)
5). President William Ruto has announced that the project has begun in October 2026 in the hope of reducing persistent traffic congestion between Thika and Nairobi.
