Rwanda is between April and July 2014 marking 20 years after the end of the Genocide that claimed an estimated one million lives in politically-instigated ethnic cleansing in 1994.
The event shall be commemorated with film screening, poetry recital, theatre performance and panel discussion.
Thierry Kevin Gatete of Kwetu Film Institute says the organisation plans to show films, stage theatre and poetry performance and hold panel discussions on how people feel two decades after the Genocide.
The target audience of the programme dubbed ‘100 Days International Healing and Learning’, Gatete says, are students in secondary schools, colleges and universities and the business community within Rwanda and around the world.
The 100 Days International Healing and Learning Programme that Gatete says aims to build awareness on the Rwandan genocide and subsequent reconciliation process, shall be launched in the Rwandan capital, Kigali, on April 7, 2014.
“The programme aims to use film to create moments for retrospection and platforms for peacemaking with oneself, with society and with history. On an international scene, the process will be run in major universities and film institutes in Germany, Canada, Switzerland, USA, Japan and South Africa,” Gatete, Technical Advisor on the initiative, says.
The programme within Rwanda shall be run in the form of corporate workshops, academic interaction and community outreach through mobile cinema.
