The meeting, organised by Observatory of Cultural Policies in Africa (OCPA) and l’ Organisation International de la Francophonie (OIF) and held in Seychelles, brainstormed on the way forward on developing creative industries on the Indian Ocean islands. The delegates also unanimously agreed on the creation of a regional programme to promote tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
The proposed programme will be set up in line with the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC)’s strategy for cultural development, according to Vincent Meriton, Minister for Community Development, Social Affairs and Sport who opened the workshop held at the Coral Strand Smart Choice Hotel on December 16, 2014. He spoke of a proposed creation of the Creative Industries and National Event Agency (CINEA) whose set up, he said, would be unveiled in 2015.
Toussaint Tiendrebeogo, an expert in politics of the creative industry at OIF said the lack of adequate cultural policies prevented countries from reaping benefits from their creative industries.
