Mona Eltahawy of Egypt has been selected for the Artists in Residency programme at Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Centre in Italy.Two Nigerians, an Egyptian and a South African have been selected for the Artists in Residency (AIR) programme at Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Centre in Italy.

While Nigeria’s Biyi Bandele has been selected for Multidisciplinary work, Egypt’s Mona Eltahawy, South Africa’s Sisonke Msimang and Nigeria’s Noo Saro – Wiwa have all been selected for Literature.

“This residency award is granted to applicants whose work and process aligns with the Africa Centre and Rockefeller Foundation’s shared goal to catalyse art that progresses the wellbeing of humanity and advances positive social change.,” says Cape Town (South Africa)-based Africa Centre that developed the programme in collaboration with the Rockefeller Foundation.

The aim of the residency, Africa Centre says, is “to support mid to late career African artists by offering residency opportunities at the Foundation’s Bellagio Center in Italy.”

Meanwhile, 16 fiction feature film and documentary projects from across Africa have been selected to pitch at the 9th Durban FilmMart (DFM) which runs July 20 – 23, 2018 during the 39th annual Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa.

The aim of DFM is to showcase and increase awareness of African cinema through stimulating film production on the continent by encouraging collaborations amongst African filmmakers.

The eight documentary and eight feature fiction projects selected are from Egypt, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Libya, Niger and South Africa,

Sixteen fiction feature film and documentary projects from across Africa have been selected to pitch at Durban FilmMart (DFM) in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.“This year’s selection profiles an eclectic mix of stories from across Africa, bringing some new talents to the Durban FilmMart that we are excited to present to attending industry professionals,” says Tony Monty, head of the Durban Film Office.

“Over and above the finance forum for these projects the DFM offers a robust programme of masterclasses, seminars, workshops, labs and networking opportunities for filmmakers to share knowledge and benchmark themselves and their work within a global and continental context,” DFM says in a statement to the media.
